PILATES – Sbodystudio

PILATES

Pilates is a sophisticated exercise system developed by Joseph Pilates (1880-1967), blending principles from both Western and Eastern philosophies. Originally conceived during World War I to aid in the rehabilitation of injured soldiers, Pilates is based on the belief that mental and physical well-being are deeply interconnected. By strengthening the body and calming the mind, Pilates promotes overall health and wellness.

The Pilates method is founded on six core principles: Breathing, Concentration, Centring, Control, Precision, and Flowing Movement. These principles guide every movement, emphasizing spinal alignment, controlled movements, and deep, rhythmic breathing. Each exercise is synchronized with the breath to optimize muscle engagement and improve movement quality.

Pilates is a low-impact workout that strengthens the body, improves flexibility, and enhances posture and balance. Using specialized equipment such as the Reformer, Cadillac, and Stability Chair, Pilates provides resistance through a full range of motion, targeting both large muscle groups and smaller stabilizing muscles. The focus is on strengthening the core—abdominals, lower back, pelvic floor, and hips—while promoting mindful, controlled movements to improve muscle tone, flexibility, and overall balance.

Suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels, Pilates sessions are customizable to individual needs. Classes are conducted in private or semi-private settings, using mat-based exercises or specialized equipment. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, improving flexibility and strength, or enhancing body awareness, Pilates offers a comprehensive approach to fitness, fostering a balanced mind-body connection and supporting overall well-being.
